Portrait of Filippo Modelli

About me

I’m Filippo Modelli, a designer from Montreal, Canada. I’ve been drawing and making art my whole life. I believe a design needs a soul. If it doesn’t feel real, it isn’t finished. My inspiration comes from everything I’ve lived: my childhood, my experiences, and the films, books and music that shaped me. My goal is to bring more beauty and soul into design.

Alba Torrefazione

Alba is a concept coffee brand: Colombian beans roasted in Piemonte, sold in two roasts. The name means dawn in Italian, and the whole identity is built around the first, slow coffee of the morning.

The two roasts are told apart by their pouches. The dark roast comes in brown kraft, the light roast in white. Hand-drawn line illustrations of couples sharing a coffee carry across the packaging, the handwritten product names and the website.

Cheap Thrills

An unsolicited redesign for Cheap Thrills, Montréal’s first used record store, open since 1971 up a steep flight of stairs at 2044 Metcalfe. The goal was a site that feels like digging through their bins, not scrolling a template.

The landing page pairs a new logo of three dancers on a record with red Cheap Thrills lettering that bounces when you hover it. Below, a wall of worn album covers slides a spinning record out as you pass over each one, and clicking a record puts it on a small turntable in the corner. Their real shop photos, hours, press and bilingual text carry the rest, set in typewriter type with hand-lettered bin dividers.

Via le Monde

Official client project

Client project: a new website for Via le Monde, the Québec documentary company that has been filming the world since 1967. Nearly sixty years of films, series, archives and testimonies needed a home that feels like an expedition, not a catalogue.

The site opens on a deep night-blue map, faint chalk sketches and a small plane tracing a dotted route across the title. From there, visitors choose their own path into the Cinémathèque, the archives, the Bertolino film project and L’Atelier documentaire.

Florence Café

An unsolicited redesign for Florence Café, a café and gelato bar on rue Centre in Pointe-Saint-Charles, Montréal. The café is named after Florence, so the new identity leans into it: a hand-drawn Renaissance statue raising an espresso inside an ornate wreath, set in one deep Florentine green on cream.

The redesign covers a new logo, the coffee menu that hangs in the café, and a website built with their real menu, prices and reviews.

Pizzeria Mezzanotte

Pizzeria Mezzanotte is a concept brand for a late-night pizzeria. Mezzanotte means midnight in Italian, and the identity is built around that hour: a crescent-moon pizza with a bite taken out of it, hand-lettered type in indigo and moon yellow, and a lavender menu.

The brand carries from the logo and the menu to a website concept, where the menu sits laminated on a wooden table and hand-drawn icons sum up the place.
